How the math works

Etsy charges a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee, and roughly 3% for payment processing — about 9.5% of the sale price plus $0.20. If a sale comes through an Offsite Ad, Etsy adds another 12–15% (we use 15% to be conservative). The suggested price is the number that leaves exactly your target margin after all those fees are deducted.
